Created to honor the extraordinary 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II (1952–2022), this piece was born from a client’s vision and brought to life by AQ PINS & GIFTS with care, precision, and respect.

It’s designed for those who want to celebrate achievement, mark a special moment, or simply remember a monarch who touched so many lives. With the Queen’s portrait in elegant 3D relief on the front and a meaningful logo on the back, every detail tells a story.

The Pinnacle of Honor – Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Medal

This commemorative medal is a tribute to one of the most iconic figures in British history — Queen Elizabeth II. More than just a piece of metal, it’s a symbol of respect, achievement, and national pride.

On the front, you’ll find a beautifully detailed 3D portrait of the Queen. Her expression is calm and confident, capturing the quiet strength she showed throughout her reign. Every line and curve in the design reflects her grace and dedication to duty. Around the edge are her name and titles, a reminder of the role she played not only in Britain but on the world stage.

Flip the medal over, and you’re met with a modern emblem that brings together tradition and progress. It’s bold yet thoughtful — a nod to the UK’s heritage while looking ahead to the future. The 3D effect gives it depth and presence, making it feel alive in your hands. The years of her reign are also engraved here, grounding the piece in time and history.

What makes this medal special isn’t just its craftsmanship or design — it’s what it stands for. It honors those who have made a difference, and it remembers a monarch who led with dignity. Holding it feels like holding a piece of history, something personal and meaningful. Whether you're collecting, giving, or simply admiring, this medal leaves a quiet but lasting impression.

What Is Double-Sided 3D Medal Design?

Double-sided 3D medal design refers to creating medals that have detailed, raised relief patterns on both the front and back. Unlike traditional medals that often feature a flat or engraved reverse side, this technique gives both sides a sculptural look and feel. It requires advanced modeling and precision in mold-making to ensure both sides are balanced and clearly defined.

How Did This Technique Develop?

The idea of 3D reliefs on metal comes from ancient coin and medal making. Back then, artists carved by hand and could only create detailed designs on one side. The concept of using both sides for meaningful visuals started gaining popularity during the Renaissance. In modern times, with the help of digital tools like CAD, it’s now possible to design and produce complex double-sided 3D medals efficiently and accurately.

How Are They Made Today?

Creating a double-sided 3D medal starts with designing both sides digitally using software like ZBrush or AutoCAD. Once approved, the designs are turned into molds — usually through CNC machining . These molds must be perfectly aligned so that pressure during stamping won’t ruin the details. Then, metal blanks are pressed between them at high force to transfer the 3D image onto both sides simultaneously.

Pros and Cons of Double-Sided 3D Medals

One major advantage is the ability to show different themes or continue a design across both sides, adding more meaning and depth. It also makes the medal look more premium and collectible. On the downside, the production process is more complicated and expensive than single-sided designs. It also takes longer to develop the molds and samples.

Who Uses Them?

These medals are commonly used for high-profile events like international sports competitions, corporate awards, military honors, and commemorative collectibles. They’re especially popular when organizers want something visually impressive that can stand out and be kept as a lasting memento.

Medal Accessories: Ribbon, Velcro & Detachable Pin Explained

Ribbon – The Decorative and Informative Connector

The ribbon is a short fabric strip that connects the medal to other fastening accessories like safety pin. It is not designed to be worn around the neck — its purpose is to hold the medal securely while displaying colors or patterns that represent specific achievements, events, or organizations.

Historically, ribbons were used in military decorations to distinguish ranks and honors. Today, they are widely used in sports, academic awards, and official ceremonies. Their main advantage lies in their visual appeal and ability to communicate meaning through color coding.

However, because of their short length and attachment function, ribbons are not meant for wearing directly around the neck. They are often sewn onto the safety pins, making them an essential part of how the medal is displayed or worn.

Velcro – The Quick and Reusable Fastener

Velcro is a two-part fastening system made up of a rough hook side and a soft loop side. When pressed together, they create a secure bond that allows medals to be attached and removed easily from uniforms, vests, or display boards.

Originally developed for industrial and aerospace applications, Velcro became popular for its convenience and durability. It’s especially useful in environments where medals need to be changed frequently, such as training centers or uniformed services.

One downside is that its grip may weaken over time with repeated washing or dust accumulation. Still, it remains a go-to option when flexibility and ease of use are priorities.

Detachable Pin – The Secure and Elegant Attachment

A detachable pin is a small but strong fastener consisting of a post and a removable backing. It allows the medal to be firmly fixed to clothing or a display case and can be removed without causing permanent damage.

This type of fastener evolved from the traditional safety pin but has been refined for better security and aesthetics. It's commonly used in formal settings such as award ceremonies, graduations, and military parades.

While highly effective, it requires careful handling to avoid losing the backing or damaging delicate fabrics.

How These Accessories Work Together

In most cases, these three accessories are used together to ensure both functionality and presentation. The ribbon connects the medal to either Velcro (for quick attachment) or a detachable pin (for secure wear). This combination allows the medal to be worn on the chest, displayed on a board, or stored neatly — all while maintaining a clean and professional appearance.

By choosing the right mix of accessories, users can customize how they wear or showcase their medals based on the occasion, frequency of use, and desired level of convenience.

Why Are Medals Wrapped in Bubble Bags?

You may have noticed that medals often come wrapped in bubble bags. This is not just for decoration or extra packaging — there are good reasons behind it.

First and most importantly, bubble bags provide excellent protection. Medals are usually made of metal, which can easily scratch, dent, or get damaged. The air-filled bubbles act as a cushion, absorbing shocks during transportation or storage. This helps keep the medal looking shiny and new without any marks or scratches.

Another benefit is protection against dust, moisture, and dirt. If medals are exposed to these elements, their appearance can fade or tarnish over time. The sealed bubble bag creates a barrier that keeps them clean and well-preserved, especially if they are stored for long periods before being given out.

Bubble bags are also lightweight and inexpensive. For large events handing out hundreds of medals, using bubble wrap is a cost-effective way to protect each one without adding too much weight or expense to the packaging process.

Lastly, most bubble bags are transparent, making it easy to see what’s inside without having to open the package. This makes sorting and distributing medals much more efficient for event organizers.

In short, wrapping medals in bubble bags ensures they stay safe, clean, and presentable — making them perfect for proud winners on special days.

Queen Elizabeth II: Medal and Coin

A UK client has requested that a design commemorating Queen Elizabeth II be produced not only as a medal but also as a coin. While the obverse of both items features the same portrait of the Queen, the reverse designs are different. Both the medal and the coin capture key elements of her legacy, with detailed craftsmanship reflecting her historic reign. This dual format offers collectors and royal enthusiasts a unique way to honor her memory and contributions. It also shows the client’s intention to celebrate the Queen’s enduring legacy in more than one form.
