Step 1 – Artwork According to Your Logo

Everything starts with your design. Whether it is a company logo, event mascot, brand pattern, or any custom graphic, you simply send your design idea to us.

You don't need to be a designer. Our art team will redraw your design into a production-ready artwork: clean lines, proper metal separation, and color mapping for hard enamel or soft enamel.

Example: For a pin design that combines text and graphics, we separate raised metal borders from recessed color areas so the final pin looks sharp and professional.

Once the artwork is approved by you, we move to the next stage — no mass production starts without your confirmation.

Step 2 – Finish 3D Model (The "Invisible" Precision Carving)

Once your artwork is confirmed, it is forwarded to our mold department. A programmer will convert the 2D design into a precise 3D model. This 3D model becomes the blueprint for everything that follows.

Then comes the real craftsmanship: a piece of black steel — the raw mold material — is fixed into an engraving machine. The computer program, compiled directly from the 3D model, guides the engraving tool to slowly remove excess metal, bit by bit. Patterns are gradually formed on the steel surface.

This is a slow process. Depending on the size and complexity of your design, engraving can take anywhere from a few hours to several days. A simple logo might be quick; an intricate design with fine lines and deep relief takes much longer. But we never rush this step — because the quality of the mold determines the quality of every single pin badge that follows.

The engraving machine is doing the cutting, but the precision comes from human programming and patient execution. This is where digital accuracy meets hands-on discipline.

Once the steel mold is finished, we are ready to move to the next stage.

Step 3 – Die Struck & Die Cast (Metal Forming Under Pressure)

Once the hardened steel mold is ready, we move to the metal-forming stage. The method depends on the material and design complexity.

For most custom lapel pins made of iron or brass, we use the die struck process. A blank metal piece is placed into a high-pressure machine. Under immense force, the metal is struck into the mold cavity, taking the exact shape of your design — raised borders, recessed areas, and fine details all come out sharply.

For zinc alloy pins — often used for 3D or heavier designs — we use the die cast process. Molten zinc alloy is injected into the mold under high pressure, filling every corner and creating a dense, detailed metal body.

Whether die struck or die cast, the principle is the same: controlled force, precision tooling, and a steel mold that never touches the final product directly — only the metal does.

After this step, the raw pin shape is born — sharp, solid, and ready for smoothing, polishing, and coloring.

Step 4 – Grinding & Vibratory Tumbling (Smoothing the Edges)

Freshly struck or cast pins have tiny burrs and rough edges. We put them into a vibratory tumbler with abrasive media and polishing compounds.

The machine vibrates rapidly for several hours, gently wearing down sharp edges and smoothing the entire surface — without damaging fine details.

After this step, the metal surface feels smooth to the touch and ready for further finishing.

Step 5 – Adding Attachments (Clutches, Needles, Magnets, etc.)

Once the metal body is ready, we add the attachment on the back so your pin badge can be worn. Common options include:

1.Needle + butterfly clutch – the most classic and widely used choice

2.Safety pin – ideal for larger badges or fabric mounting

3.Magnet – no puncture, perfect for delicate clothing

4.Rubber clutch – softer and more secure than metal clutch

5.Separate pin (two-piece clutchless pin) – for a cleaner back design

6.U-shaped pin (horseshoe pin) – strong and stable for thicker fabrics

We will recommend the best attachment type based on your pin size and how it will be used.

Step 6 – Polishing (Bringing Out the Metal Shine)

Before plating, the pin goes through a mechanical polishing stage using rotating cloth wheels and fine polishing compounds.

This removes any remaining micro-scratches and gives the metal a mirror-like or satin finish, depending on your request.

We don't rush this step. A poorly polished pin will look dull even after plating.

Step 7 – Electroplating (Color Coating the Metal)

Polished pins are then immersed in electroplating baths. We apply a thin layer of metal plating to give the pin its final metal tone.

Common finishes include bright gold, antique gold, silver or nickel, black nickel for a modern look, as well as copper, rose gold, and antique brass for a vintage feel.

Electroplating not only gives color but also protects the metal from oxidation and adds a premium, professional finish to every pin badge.

Step 8 – Enamel Coloring (Soft Enamel vs. Hard Enamel)

This is where your pin badge truly comes to life.

For soft enamel, colors are filled into the recessed areas and then baked. The raised metal borders remain visible and slightly higher than the enamel, creating a textured, slightly bumpy feel that is very classic. Soft enamel is suitable for most pin badges, offering high cost-effectiveness and a vintage charm.

For hard enamel, multiple layers of enamel are applied and each layer is polished down flat after every firing. The final surface is perfectly smooth and flush with the metal borders. Hard enamel is more durable and scratch-resistant, often used for high-end corporate gifts or luxury custom projects.

We recommend soft enamel for cost-effectiveness and its classic vintage charm, and hard enamel for a jewelry-like smooth finish. Each color is hand-mixed and filled carefully — even in high-volume orders, our team inspects every single pin.

Step 9 – Quality Inspection & Packaging

Before packing, every pin badge is carefully inspected for color accuracy, plating uniformity, attachment strength, and any surface scratches or bubbles. Only pieces that pass our quality standards move to packaging.

For standard packaging, we pack each pin individually into a clear OPP bag. It is dustproof and moisture-resistant, making it ready for bulk distribution or easy gifting.

For premium packaging, if you want your pin to feel extra special, we offer a range of options including velvet box (classic black or blue velvet), wooden box (engraving available), plastic display case with a clear lid, PU leather box for a modern and elegant look, or paper card with blister packaging for retail display.

Regardless of which packaging is chosen, we conduct a final inspection before shipment, ensuring every pin is flawless and safely delivered to our clients.
