Attachment Options: Velcro, Iron-On, Sew-On

Both PVC and silicone patches can be attached in three main ways. The right choice depends on your fabric type, durability needs, and application method.

Velcro (Hook & Loop):
The patch has a hook backing that sticks to a loop base sewn onto the garment. This allows easy removal and reattachment. Ideal for uniforms, tactical gear, and items that need frequent washing or swapping.

Iron-On : A heat-activated adhesive is pre-applied to the back of the patch. It is bonded to the fabric using a heat press or household iron. Works for both PVC and silicone patches—simply apply heat to the back of the patch, not the front.

Plain (Sew-On):
The patch has no adhesive backing. It is stitched directly onto the fabric. This is the most secure and durable attachment method. Works for both PVC and silicone, and is ideal for heavy-duty applications like bags, workwear, and outdoor gear.

Can Both Handle Water and Heat?

Both PVC and silicone patches are 100% waterproof. Neither material absorbs water, and neither will swell, degrade, or lose adhesion when wet. For outdoor use, rain, sweat, and moisture are not concerns for either option.

The real difference is heat resistance.

PVC patches soften and deform at just 45-50°C (113-122°F) . This means they are not recommended for iron-on applications where high heat is involved. Standard heat press machines operate at 140-165°C —well above PVC's melting point. At these temperatures, PVC will bubble, warp, and suffer permanent damage. PVC patches must be sewn on or attached with Velcro.

Silicone patches withstand temperatures up to 200-250°C (392-482°F) . They are ideal for iron-on applications where the patch is bonded directly onto fabric using heat and pressure. Standard heat transfer requires 150-180°C , which is well within silicone's safe range. This is why sportswear and outdoor brands almost always choose silicone when heat transfer is required.
